Super Mario World is a platform video game developed and published by Nintendo for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES). It was released in 1990 and is the fourth main installment in the Mario series.
Gameplay
Players control Mario or his brother Luigi through various levels in the dinosaur-inhabited Dinosaur Land to rescue Princess Toadstool from the series' antagonist, Bowser. The game consists of several worlds, each containing multiple levels. Players navigate side-scrolling levels, avoiding obstacles and enemies while collecting power-ups such as mushrooms and fire flowers to gain abilities like growing larger or shooting fireballs.
Unique Features
Yoshi: Super Mario World introduces Yoshi, a friendly dinosaur who aids Mario on his quest. Yoshi can eat enemies, jump on hazardous terrain, and even fly briefly by swallowing certain colored Koopa shells.
Power-ups: The game introduces new power-ups like the Cape Feather, which grants Mario a cape allowing him to glide through the air, and the Spin Jump, which enables Mario to bounce off enemies and certain obstacles.
Multiple Exits: Many levels contain secret exits, leading to hidden paths on the world map, alternative levels, or even to new worlds. Exploring and finding these exits adds depth and replay value to the game.
Special Worlds: After completing the main game, players unlock "Special World," a set of challenging levels with unique themes and obstacles.
Secret Tips
14. Green Switch Palace:
Mario activates the green switch in the Green Switch Palace.
Unlike the Yellow Switch Palace, which is easily accessible, other Switch Palaces are hidden behind Secret Exits, offering helpful advantages in challenging platforming sections.
The Green Switch Palace, particularly elusive for first-time players, is unlocked by discovering the Secret Exit in Donut Plains 2. Inside the bonus area, hitting a Koopa Shell into a turnblock reveals a climbable vine.
13. Top Secret Area:

Considered the most useful hidden area, Top Secret Area provides a safe haven for players to restock on Mushrooms, Fire Flowers, Feathers, and 1-Ups, without any enemies.
Accessible by entering Donut Ghost House as Mario and flying right above the starting point to find an alternate exit leading to Top Secret Area.
12. Vanilla Secret:
Mario heads to Star World Vanilla Secret 1 in Super Mario World.
Vanilla Dome offers branching paths; by finding the secret exit in Vanilla Dome 1, players can access Vanilla Heights, bypassing Vanilla Dome and reaching the Twin Bridges.
Vanilla Secret 1 leads to a Star Road by flying near the stage's end, revealing a pipe.
11. Red Switch Palace:
Mario triggers the Red Switch Palace in Super Mario World.
Finding the Red Switch Palace isn’t overly challenging but is often overlooked. It requires reaching the secret exit in Vanilla Dome 2, a time-consuming task with a good understanding of the stage's layout.
Upon reaching the stage’s P-Switch, players must navigate through brown blocks, Cheep Cheeps, and an underwater keyhole to unlock the secret exit.
10. Soda Lake:
Mario navigates through Bullet Bills and fish in Soda Lake.
The secret exit for Soda Lake is considered one of the coolest in the game. It remains hidden until players complete Cheese Bridge Area, requiring players to fly over or jump off Yoshi to bypass the goal post and unlock Soda Lake.
The stage's dot on the level path turns red after completing it, indicating the presence of a secret exit.
9. Blue Switch Palace:
Triggering the Blue Switch Palace switches in the Forest of Illusion.
Found behind the water stage Forest of Illusion 2, players must delve into the underwater depths to locate a hidden keyhole behind a fake wall. The key is situated in the lower-left region near the stage's end.
The stage is relatively straightforward but populated with rooftop Spinies, posing an additional challenge.
8. Donut Secret 2:
Mario and Yoshi stand on a pipe in Super Mario World's Donut Secret 2.
Donut Secret 2, also known as Donut Underground, is accessed through Donut Secret House, where players trigger a secret entrance surrounded by coins using a POW block.
The stage features an icy cavern overlooking the Valley of Bowser, offering a peaceful yet slippery challenge.
7. Chocolate Secret:
Mario leaps by Koopa Troopas in Super Mario World's Chocolate Secret platforms.
Chocolate Island 2 yields different areas based on various factors, such as the number of coins, Dragon Coins, and completion time.
Reaching the secret exit with the key unlocks Chocolate Secret, residing in the Valley of Bowser and accessed by maintaining at least 250 seconds on the timer.
6. Forest Secret Area:
Mario navigates Forest Secret Area on a flying platform.
Accessed via the secondary exit of Forest of Illusion 4, Forest Secret Area offers a branching path to another Star Road through Forest Fortress's secret exit.
Players must reach an elevated pipe near the stage's end to unlock the secret exit and access Forest Secret Area.
5. Larry’s Castle Shortcut:
Mario and Yoshi find Larry's Castle secret path in Super Mario World's Bowser Castle.
The shortcut into Larry’s Castle allows players to circumvent a significant portion of the Valley of Bowser by thoroughly exploring the confusing Ghost House.
Players must navigate through various rooms and use a P-Switch to create a staircase, leading to the shortcut.
4. Star World:

Star World consists of five challenging stages that make extensive use of Yoshi.
Players enter Star World through various stages like Donut Secret House, Vanilla Secret 1, and Forest Fortress, depending on the exit they find first.
3. Special World:
Super Mario World balloon Mario floats over coins, pipes, and Koopa football players.
Special World, unlocked by finding the secret exit in Star World 5, offers a new set of challenging stages.
Accessible with all Switch Palaces completed, Blue Yoshi or Caped Mario is recommended to reach the secret exit.
2. Autumn Dinosaur Land:

Completing the final stage in Special World, Funky, transforms Dinosaur Land's scenery from spring to autumn.
Enemies wear masks, and the lush green environment is replaced with soft orange tones, providing a refreshing change to the game's art direction.
1. Bowser's Castle Back Door:
Super Mario World's back door entrance featuring Koopa enemies and a spotlight.
The Back Door is accessible by finding the secret exit in Valley Fortress, the hardest level in the main game.
