SASSLA - A Comprehensive Risk Management and Digital Alerting Platform.
This platform receives official signals from the Mexican Seismic Alert System (SASMEX), along with emergency notifications and public announcements from Civil Protection.
The SASSLA APP provides tailored information when a seismic alert is triggered:
• Estimated Time of Arrival (ETA) of seismic waves at your location.
• Approximate epicenter location.
• Anticipated intensity of shaking at your location (light, moderate, or strong).
[SASSLA APP REQUIRES AN INTERNET CONNECTION]
The Seismic Alert serves as a warning signal, enabling timely preventive measures and actions just seconds before seismic waves that could cause damage arrive.
It’s important to note that the Seismic Alert is not activated for every earthquake; it only triggers when there is a potential threat to your area.
TOTAL BROADCAST COVERAGE OF THE SEISMIC ALERT SIGNAL IN SASSLA APP BY STATE:
• Mexico City
• State of Mexico
• Morelos
• Puebla
• Tlaxcala
• Guerrero
• Oaxaca
• Michoacán
• Colima
• Jalisco
PARTIAL BROADCAST COVERAGE:
• Chiapas
• Veracruz
• Tabasco
• Guanajuato
• Nayarit
DETECTION COVERAGE OF THE MEXICAN SEISMIC ALERT SYSTEM (SASMEX):
SASMEX utilizes 96 seismic sensors to cover the most seismically active regions of the country, particularly along the Pacific Ocean and the neovolcanic axis, including the states of Jalisco, Colima, Michoacán, Guerrero, Oaxaca, and Puebla.
The monitoring system is equipped with highly reliable, redundant, and resilient electrical, electronic, computing, and communication engineering systems to ensure continuous operation and availability throughout the year, 365 days.
ANTICIPATION TIME:
SASMEX defines opportunity time as the interval between when the population hears the official seismic alert and when the earthquake impacts the area experiencing the strongest seismic activity. This time frame typically ranges from 20 to 120 seconds.
The length of this anticipation time is influenced by the distance from the earthquake's epicenter to the location of the alert recipient. For instance, if an earthquake strikes off the coast of Michoacán, residents of Mexico City could have over 100 seconds of warning. Conversely, cities situated closer to the earthquake's origin will experience shorter warning times.
INNOVATION AND PRESTIGE OF SASMEX
SASMEX is a fully Mexican initiative that utilizes cutting-edge technology. It leverages the expertise of a highly skilled team in fields such as telemetry systems, electronics, geophysics, computing, communications, and artificial intelligence to deliver alerts to the public using the fastest algorithm available globally. This makes it the quickest seismic alert system in the world.
SASMEX is a member of international organizations dedicated to reducing disaster risks. It actively engages in national and international events, including conferences, forums, seminars, and symposiums focused on seismology. Additionally, it shares insights about its operations with global experts who visit its headquarters in Mexico.
Some of the organizations it collaborates with include:
- International Association of Seismology and Physics of the Earth's Interior (IASPEI)
- United States Geological Survey (USGS)
- Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI)
- American Geophysical Union (AGU)
- Seismological Society of America (SSA)
SASMEX: MEXICO'S EXCLUSIVE OFFICIAL SEISMIC ALERT
SASMEX holds the distinction of being the world's first seismic alert system and a trailblazer in seismic warning technology. Alerts from SASMEX are shared with the public at no cost. Furthermore, it is officially supported and acknowledged by federal authorities as the SOLE OFFICIAL seismic warning system in Mexico.
