COMPATIBILITY

The app supports the following dictionary/file formats:

• StarDict (*.idx)

• DSL (*.dsl)

• XDXF (*.xdxf)

• Dictd (*.index)

• TSV/Plain (*.txt, *.dic)

Additionally, it can access DICT protocol dictionaries online.

SETTING UP DICTIONARIES

• Connect your mobile device to your computer.

• Transfer dictionary files to the app's documents/files folder on your device. For more information, visit: https://support.google.com/android/answer/9064445

• Use the "Import" option in the dictionary manager to select the dictionary index file from the compatibility list above (or its archive).

• Optionally, attach resource ZIP files using the "Attach ZIP" option in the dictionary menu.

• Optionally, create a full-text search index with the "Upgrade" option in the dictionary menu.

• Optionally, set up profiles to categorize and organize dictionaries.

RESOURCE FILES

Resource files for a dictionary can be included in multiple ZIP files with the following criteria:

i) Classic (non-ZIP64) file type

ii) Flat (no subdirectories) structure

iii) Up to 65,535 files per ZIP file

Utilize the "Attach ZIP" feature in the dictionary menu to copy and link ZIP files to a dictionary.

FULL-TEXT SEARCH

• The app allows for full-text searches across all dictionaries to find exact matches.

• This feature requires a one-time upgrade per dictionary, which can take considerable time, as every word will be indexed for searchability.

SYNCHRONIZING BETWEEN DEVICES

Dictionaries can be transferred between devices through one of two methods:

• "Export" a dictionary to a .zip file on the first device, then "Import" it on the second.

• Use a file manager to copy the complete ".fora" folder or individual dictionary folders.

SEARCH TYPES

You can perform five types of searches on the dictionaries:

• Regular search:

- Displays results that exactly match the query.

• Extended matching search:

- Displays results matching the query while ignoring case, diacritics, and punctuation. Suggestions include in-phrase and phonetic matches.

• Full-text search:

- Returns a list of articles containing exact matches of the query, encompassing all text in all articles (definitions, synonyms, examples, etc.).

• Fuzzy search:

- Provides a list of articles that are closely related to the query, helpful for uncertain spellings.

• Wildcard search:

- Shows a list of articles matching criteria set by wildcard queries.

ANDROID 10+

• Starting with Android 10, the shared/external storage mechanism (SD card) has been phased out.

• The OS now requires all apps to operate within their sandboxed folders for app data.

• If you upgrade to Android 10 or later, you may need to transfer the ".fora" folder from your device’s shared storage to the app’s sandboxed folder (usually Android/data/com.ngc.fora/files) using a file manager.
